The C Programming Language
by Brian W. Kernighan, Dennis Ritchie, Dennis M. Ritchie
This book is meant to help the reader learn how to program in C. It is the definitive reference guide, now in a second edition. Although the first edition was written in 1978, it continues to be a worldwide best-seller. This second edition brings the classic original up to date to include the ANSI standard.

In my experience, this is the best technical book ever written. It doesn’t try to teach programming so if you’re not a programmer or if you’ve had no formal science, engineering or math education already then this book is going to be tough. But if you are a programmer, this book is amazing for its perfect balance of brevity and clarity by sticking to the subject and addressing exactly its target audience. It contains no fluff which makes it special to me.
